Our Organization |
|
Stockton Rowing Club is a
non-profit organization. It is a member of the United States Rowing Association.
It maintains its rowing facilities at River Point Landing Marina in Stockton at the west end
of March Lane.
Stockton Rowing Club traces its
history back more than 100 years. Its modern expansion began in the early
1980s. We now have six 8s including two new Vespoli's, several 4s including a
Kaschper that can be rigged as a quad, and several single sculling shells and
trainers for use by our members, as well as storage for members’ private
equipment. Our boathouse is just a few yards from our launch ramp and the best
rowing water around.
- We provide coaching for all
age groups: sweep (one oar per person in racing crew shells) and sculling (two oars per
person in sculling shells).
- We have a Junior Crew program
for Junior High and High School students who want to experience the sport of rowing.

What makes Stockton Rowing unique? Thoughts about SRC and rowing…submitted by SRC rowers
The rewards of joining this club have been immense - the new friendships, the teamwork and the physical rewards as well as enjoying the outdoors. I love this sport! The members come from all different walks of life - professors, scientists, teachers, engineers, manicurists, office administrators - all for one common love - rowing! SRC Masters Rock! Kristie T.
Having grown up in Stockton and playing on the Delta my entire life, I have never been able to enjoy it more than with SRC. The variety of options for membership is great (i.e. offerings of masters recreational and competitive) for me as a working mom. I hate the gym and don't want to lose time with my family. With the early morning rec rows, I can get out on the weekends and row - reaping benefits of a healthier body and mind...along with a new found respect for the waterway and all it's beauty that makes Stockton spectacular! Of course the amazing people in the club are what really make it fabulous. Everyone is so down-to-earth and welcoming. There are really some fascinating people in the group. I arrive home energized and refreshed just as the family is starting to stir. I love rowing and I love SRC! I just wish I would have known about it growing up...all that time I could have been "soaking" it up with SRC! Amy M.
I have always felt that rowing is the ultimate team sport. Not only is each rower responsible to stay in synch with the others throughout the row, but the responsibility extends to being there, on time, and ready. If not, the boat might not be able to go out. Its the fact that one would be letting down a group of friends, not just flaking out on one's own commitment. Annie B.
There is nothing more beautiful than watching the sun come up over silent, glass smooth water. After a long row, there is nothing that feels better than a nap! I like the mental dicipline rowing requires. The boats are examples of elegant design and beautiful construction. Rowing is a unique combination of power and stamina, but also delicate balance. Dennis S.
My personal experience being a part of the Stockton Rowing Club has been a wonderful one. I have never been more welcomed as a newbie! My experience with SRC has given me great strength, challenge and self confidence that I never thought I had at this time in my life. I am in my late 40's and I have a new kinship with wonderful people. I also have a wonderful experience of our Delta.... Being on the water .... seeing our "Gentle Giants' (Ships) come and go through our port.... One can see "sea otters" or possibly a "Dolphin" "Blue Herons" "Flying Fish", Etc...., When you're that close....It's an amazing experience. I'll I can say at this point is.... SRC Rocks!!!! Laura H.
What I love about SRC and rowing is that it truly can be for everyone. Anyone who thinks they could physically make the movements associated with rowing, i.e. no back or shoulder problems, can have fun with SRC. We get to be outside early in the morning, see beautiful sunrises, see all kinds of birds, seals and dolphins! And we get to get in shape while we're enjoying ourselves! I have gotten so much stronger since I started rowing. And lost weight :-) Last but not least, there are the members of SRC. From my first day in Intro to Row, SRC members have been supportive, nice, helpful and totally Fun people! I can't say enough about how nice these people are. It's a great group, a great sport and I feel very thankful that we have a club like this here in Stockton. Nancy S.
After completing the "Intro to Row" class this past summer, I fell in love with rowing on the Delta. It has given me the opportunity to learn a new skill, get a great physical work-out in a beautiful location (the Delta), and meeting new friends with similar interests. Cheryl F.
Sculling for years has allowed me to grow familiar with the Delta and to notice patterns and changes. I have become passionate about degradation of the ecosystem, having seen so much deterioration in a mere ten years, compelling me to do my little bit to help reduce further damage to health of our waterways. It's really a complex issue politically, so I concentrate on learning what I can do (hands on) to be an effective water steward. The part I love most about rowing, is exploring our waterways. I learn so much about the wonders of nature, commerce in our port, and the history of the Delta. The other aspects of rowing--namely fitness, great friendships, and partnership in skills development--are icing on the cake. Phoebe S.
Rowing is a path for growth in a human development sense. It's physical, social, psychological, and fun. The endorphins that release after you perform the outdoor physical feats will make you happy and smart. Besides...humans like being near water. Tom M.
Rowing has changed my life. It has become a passion to which I can dedicate myself wholeheartedly and which allows me to push myself physically and psychologically, improve my health and fitness levels, and enjoy nature as part of nature itself and not as a mere observer. SRC is an organization with so much heart, and SRC members never cease to amaze me with their generosity. Go SRC! Victoria J.
