Learn to Row is a program offered by SRC to introduce the fundamentals of rowing to adult (18+) beginners with no rowing experience.

The goal for the course is to teach the basics of rowing including the terminology, handling the equipment, and how to row in crews of eight. We start by teaching the on-land stuff followed by on-water instruction and practice. Beginning on dry land, Learn to Row students practice the basic elements of the rowing stroke on “ergs”. You will also learn basic boating commands, how to handle the equipment and the rules of the water. The on-water portion begins in SRCs “barge”. Students will learn the technique and execution of the rowing stroke, rowing commands and the intricacies of crew dynamics. Finally, Learn to Row students will take their boats out onto the sheltered waterway of Buckley Cove and the Stockton Deepwater Channel under the supervision of the Coach and SRC Master rowers. Weather permitting, approximately one half of the sessions will be on the water.

You will receive more information regarding what to wear, what to bring, where we are located, etc. after you register for the class.
